What's it like to be a Safety Officer?
A Safety Officer's primary role is to ensure that an organisation is compliant with health and safety laws to maintain a safe working environment. They're responsible for developing, implementing and reviewing health and safety strategies, policies and procedures. They perform regular site inspections, provide safety training to other employees and handle any incidents that may arise, which can include conducting incident investigations and providing reports. Safety Officers are found in a variety of industries, such as construction, healthcare and manufacturing.
Tasks and duties
- Developing and implementing health and safety policies.
- Inspecting equipment and machinery to see if they meet safety regulations.
- Conducting training sessions on safety practices and accident prevention.
- Investigating incidents to discover causes and handle compensation claims.
- Recommending solutions to issues that could lead to accidents or other risks in the workplace.
- Maintaining records of safety-related incidents and submitting reports.
- Collaborating with managers to monitor compliance and identify safety issues.
