What's it like to be an Environmental Consultant?
Environmental Consultants provide expert assessment and advisory services to businesses and government bodies to manage their environmental impact. They often work on projects related to pollution, waste management, sustainable development and environmental compliance with local regulations or international protocols. In addition, they perform duties including research, data collection and preparation of detailed reports. Environmental Consultants can be employed by consultancy firms, government agencies, or can work independently. They typically have qualifications in environmental science or related fields, and their work ultimately supports the conservation of the environment.
Tasks and duties
- Conducting field surveys and collecting environmental data.
- Interpreting data, which can include using software-modelling packages, and report writing.
- Researching previous investigations of a site to provide information to clients considering purchase.
- Providing advice to clients on environmental management and future development.
- Writing clear and concise reports and presenting findings to clients.
- Keeping up-to-date with legislation and ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies.
- Developing environmental management systems and procedures for companies.
